Lifestyle Feature // Noel Bazaar 2014

See my story in Manila Standard Today: It’s bazaar season again

Noel Bazaar, the first of four bazaar legs of the country’s biggest and longest-running shopping event, kicked off recently at The Filinvest Tent, Alabang.

image 2

Noel Bazaar features concessionaires offering fashion and beauty items, home decors, food, novelties, Christmas trimmings and other affordable gift items.

I go to bazaars when when I want a change from the usual tiangge shopping in Divisoria where almost everyone is selling the same thing. In bazaars, concessionaires are more adventurous in choosing their merchandise. Plus, you also get to haggle for multiple purchases so you can purchase more from other stalls.

What I liked in Noel Bazaar was the good combination of various goods from discounted to branded clothing, overruns, customized novelties, artisanal food and handmade products.

Continuing its 15-year tradition of offering the most accessible, most comfortable shopping experience with the widest selections of unique and quality items at affordable prices, the Noel Bazaar Series takes on the caravan theme to highlight the wonderful and festive spirit of the Christmas season.

image 3
Some of the nicest finds during my shopping experience: high quality branded top for P180, ready-to-go gift – pair of top and shorts (P130) and overruns for kids (2 for P100).

As added attractions, there will be demonstrations on skin care and makeup by Mary Kay and cooking by CATFABS. The main attraction, however, of the Noel Bazaar continues to be its unbeatable line up of unique, top-of-the-line but very affordable gift items.

From October 17-19 bazaar in Filinvest Tent, the remaining legs of Noel Bazaar will run in World Trade Center at Gil Puyat Avenue Extension corner Diosdado Macapagal Blvd., Pasay City until November 30, December 5-7 and 19-21 this year.

The Noel Bazaar will benefit the projects of the GMA Kapuso, Bantayog ng mga Bayani, Gifts and Graces Foundations as well as Saints Peter and John Parish and the Noel P. Gozon Memorial Clinic.

The Noel Bazaar Series is presented by GMA Network, GMA News TV and other media partners.

Tribute to Giftedness: Journey through Excellence

Check out my full story in Manila Standard Today // Giftedness and talent are not the same

What they call “giftedness” is mostly associated with “talent.” While most believe the terms are synonymous and interchangeable, professor Françoys Gagné, Ph. D, states otherwise.

Professor Françoys Gagné, Ph. D discussing the Differentiating Model of Giftedness and Talent

Every parent wants her child to be gifted. And for a child to successfully harness his or her talents, catalysts or influences should include intra-personal factors such as perseverance, general curiosity, intrinsic motivation and ambition, and environmental factors like family, school and quality of the peer group.

According to the DMGT (Differentiating Model of Giftedness and Talent), giftedness is a superior natural ability that is evident without systematic learning or teaching. Gagné, one of the most prominent names in the field of gifted education, uses the term gifted to designate any person who possesses a natural aptitude that placed them among the top 10 percent of their age group. Whereas, talent implies a mastered skill that has been developed exceptionally well. Gagné claims that for gifts to translate into talents, they must be developed through a variety of catalysts.

Hoppiepolla_Promil Giftedness

Giftedness and talent could be a driving force for the Philippine economy to continue the steps it is taking toward becoming a progressive country. Nurturing home-grown talent can benefit the country greatly by spurring its development.

There are over 1.27 million gifted children in the country according to data gathered by the Department of Education in 2010. A big number of these potentially gifted Filipinos are overlooked because of the lack of proper guidance and support..

While environment plays an important role that can aid in developing children’s raw abilities, it can also present less than ideal influences. Giftedness and talent do not flourish on their own. Nature and nurture should work well together. It is not enough to have the talent – It’s how the talent is utilized to achieve greater success in a broader scale, like in ones community or even country. Improvements in economic growth are closely related to the level of cognitive skills of the population.

Hoppiepolla_Promil Giftedness 5 Level Popular Classification

As Dr. Letty Ho, president, Philippine Center for Gifted Education, Inc. shares, “Nurturing the potentially gifted is a shared responsibility of the family, as well as both public and private sectors, if they are to be developed maximally.”

For over 25 years, Promil Pre-School has been an advocate of nurturing Filipino children’s gifts into talent. With the right balance of support from parents, proper care through the right learning environment, and proper nutrition from Promil Pre-School, gifts can be nurtured into exceptional talents that benefit a larger community.

“This is a vision that Promil Pre-School shares with Professor Gagné. The brand was founded on the premise of making it easier for people to reach their full potentials and become gifts not just to themselves or their families, but also to their community. We believe that well-rounded and fully-developed talented individuals are those who are able to use their exceptional abilities for the greater good,” adds Yu.

Tribute to Giftedness: Journey through Excellence

*** End of story ***

In days when there’s less work from my freelance job, I get the energy to multitask and jump out from my quiet desk and go to events. I must find a place to elaborate more of what’s happening in a three-hour exposure I get to many random things other than my digital life.

My experience with being a photojournalist somehow moves me in different ways: learning a lot of things, meeting wonderful people and roaming around places!

This is where my digital nomad life continues…

I cover mostly for Manila Standard Today (well for now I am only writing for this publication) and been doing so for almost 10 years now!

Please feel free to browse and read my stories featuring a lot of interesting things in Manila!
